the bread of heaven

“How awesome is this place!

This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

If you live in Pemberton St John's Church belongs to you, this community with its beautiful building has been the spiritual heart of our parish for nearly two hundred years. If you live further afield you are also very welcome to join us in prayer, we are two minutes from the M6 & M58. Generations of Christian people have gathered at St John's to receive God's blessing, to share their joys and sorrows, and to grow in faith. Today you are invited to join that ongoing pilgrimage, and whether you are just beginning to explore the Christian Gospel, or perhaps worshiped at St John's in years past, you will discover the love of God which is always new. Here you will find encouragement, acceptance, and the grace of God given through worship and friendship.

The Church of God is not only a building, nor is she a meeting gathered for a moment on Sundays. The People of God who belong to St John's serve God every day, and you will be made welcome at any of our regular times of prayer throughout the week. We worship in the traditions of the Church of England, in ways which point to the beauty and awesomeness of God. We proclaim the Faith handed down from the apostles. People of all ages, including young children, are truly welcome at all our services, and at the 10am Parish Eucharist on Sundays there is an excellent Sunday School. Our preaching seeks to draw out the message of the Gospel in ways that speak to adults today. The pinnacle of our worship is the Holy Eucharist, or Communion, when we receive Christ into our midst as he promised and commanded us to, breaking bread and sharing the cup of wine. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the sacrament.

During the week we pray in the morning and evening, reflecting on the wisdom of the Bible. Prayers are offered for the Church, the world, and particularly for the people of Pemberton.

Those wishing to explore becoming a Christian, through Holy Baptism, should speak with the Vicar, the Rev'd Philip Anderson, using the email link at the top of this page.
